5 Awesome Features of Samsung Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge

Samsung has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S6, which will come in two versions; including one with curved screen called Galaxy S6 Edge. The smartphones have been completely reworked from the ground up, right from the materials used to the user interface. Now, the smartphones don’t have a removable battery or a microSD card slot, but they have a slick new design and a number of awesome features that set them apart from its competitors. Let’s take a look at the five coolest features of Samsung’s new flagship phones.

Better Display

The Galaxy S6 features a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display, unchanged from last year’s model. However, Samsung has bumped up the resolution from Full HD (1080 x 1980 pixels) at 432ppi to Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) at 577ppi. Samsung says that the new phones’ display is 25%brighter than the Galaxy S5 display, and offers much better outdoor visibility.

Improved Camera

Both Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S6 are fitted with 16Mp rear cameras, but the front camera has been boosted from 2MP to 5Mp, and now has f1.9 lens that allows for better shots in the dark.
The Galaxy S6 also gets Optical Image Stabilization and super quick access feature. Samsung claims the camera can be started in just 0.7 seconds by pressing the home button twice.

Wireless and Fast Charging

The Galaxy S6 offers a 2550 mAh battery that’s not removable, but it has wireless charging built in (supporting both PMA and WPC). The Korean company will be selling its own charging pads, but the new phones will be compatible with any wireless pad that supports WPC and PMA standards. Moreover, the new devices also feature Adaptive Fast Charging technology that speeds up the charging process. Samsung says a quick 10-minute charge will provide about 4 hours of usage.

Better Fingerprint Scanner

As with the S5, the Galaxy S6 includes a fingerprint scanner built into the Home button, but rather than swipe-based input, the new fingerprint scanner works like the Touch ID on the iPhone where you just need to place your thumb on it to unlock your phone and confirm payments.

Samsung Pay

Samsung will offer its own wireless payment solution called Samsung Pay on the Galaxy S6. The payment system works with both NFC and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology so you can make payments in stores that have NFC readers, and it also works on about 90% of magnetic stripe readers, but some very old terminals might fail to recognize the signal. Still, it’s probably your best shot at leaving your wallet at home.

Conclusion

Both the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are beautiful devices that delivers many awesome features with an improved user experience. Leaving out the SD card slot and removable battery are disappointing. However, it’s a small trade off for the solid and premium metal design. Overall, the Galaxy S6 phones are one of the best-looking and powerful handsets of 2015 so far.
